What is the Individual Development Accounts (IDA) Affinity Group?
IDAs are matched savings accounts that enable low-income American families to save, build assets, and enter the financial mainstream. IDAs reward the monthly savings of low-income families who are building towards purchasing an asset – most commonly buying their first home, paying for post-secondary education, or starting a small business. IDAs make it possible for low-income families to build the financial assets they need to achieve the American Dream.
IACED has an IDA affinity group which provides a forum to exchange resources, information, and ideas about how to best structure for IDA initiatives and policies that enable low-income families and individuals to save, build wealth, and contribute to the nation’s continued economic grow. The IDA affinity group is comprised of IDA providers from across the state, housing counselors, other community economic development professionals, financial institution representatives, state policy makers, and others who share a commitment to expanding opportunities for low-income families to build financial and human capital.
IACED sends out a periodic newsletter to the IDA affinity group with pressing research and policy issues relating to financial literacy, funding opportunities, asset development, and homebuyer education. Participation in the IDA affinity group is open to any organization, bank, or other entity in the state with an interest IDAs and asset development. If you would like to join this group, contact John Marron at jmarron@iaced.org.
